I'll start this post off by saying that I've never liked greeting cards. Sure, it's nice to get a card, but it's even nicer when someone handwrites an original message from the heart. It's too easy to go out, pick a card and then sign your name(s) on the inside. That, in my opinion, just doesn't seem sincere enough. Plus, there is the issue with collecting cards throughout the years. They come in all different sizes, some have glitter, some are electronic with batteries that could corrode, making preservation difficult.
We would like to present a simple idea that could make your trips to the Hallmark section of the store a bygone activity.
The Card Journal

This Mother's Day, whether you're celebrating the first one with baby on the way, or with your dear Grandma, you can start their own Card Journal. The journal acts as a catalog of all the holidays of which a card would have normally been given. Instead, a new page or pages are dedicated for the person giving the card to write a special note, draw a picture or paste in some crafty love. You can give the Card Journal to your special person on Mother's Day, or any other card-giving Holiday, presented with their gift (you did remember the gift, right?).
How to Start a Card Journal
You would want the designated card journal to speak uniquely to the personality of the intended recipient. The journal should be durable to last for decades. Ideally, it should have acid-free paper and a sturdy cover that is perfect bound or hard bound. We would recommend a Rhodia Webnotebook, Clairefontaine notebook, a Filofax or an Eccolo Journal. Keep in mind how you wish to write/draw/decorate in the journal, as you would need to make sure the paper could hold up to the medium(s) you wish to use. Rhodia, Clairefontaine and Eccolo Journals are suitable to handle most pens, including fountain pen ink. For watercolor or other mixed media needs, we would suggest thicker watercolor paper or using bristol board to fashion your own DIY notebook.
Starting at page 1, you would craft your message, making sure to date it appropriately. If you have young children, you can write on one page and the kids can fill in the opposite page with their scribblings, drawings, stickers, etc. This would look beautiful after some years when you start to see the kids' handwriting develop over time and be able to look back at the scribbles when the journal was first started.
You can also give the journal to other family members and friends that would want to contribute. It can be as fun and memorable as a yearbook if you get a number of different people involved!
After Mother's Day is over, Mom can keep the journal until you kindly ask for it back before the next card-giving Holiday. It sure beats having to run out to the drugstore, only to pace the greeting card aisle and purchase an overpriced card. Starting a Card Journal for that special person in your life can be a cherished tradition that is handed down from generation to generation.

Holiday Shipping Schedule
Now, on to business. Christmas Eve is upon us, which is the last possible day to either receive a USPS package or UPS express shipment. Here is a schedule leading up to Christmas Eve and how much our "Get it by Xmas" shipping will cost.
For the remainder of today, Thursday, December 18th, you can take advantage of our Free Shipping Day promotion where there is no minimum to get free shipping with your order. That means any refill or pen ships with $0 shipping charge. This party ends at 11:59pm.
Once Friday, the 19th comes, we are offering a special "Get it by XMAS" shipping method. Simply add any "Quick Ship" items to your cart and select the "Get it by XMAS" shipping method during checkout. We guarantee that your order will be expedited for shipment and we will try our best to get them to you on or before December 24th.
The "Quick Ship" items are available for immediate shipping, but sometimes inventory can run out quicker than our website can be updated. If this is the case, we will contact you as soon as possible to make alternative arrangements or give you the option to cancel. Although our engraving team is fast at work, churning out scores of engraved pens and gifts every day this month, if you select engraving on your order at this time, it may add an additional day to the shipping time. I haven't had much time recently to write posts since catalog production is in full-swing. In the spirit of the holiday, I'm taking a short break to write you about some news in the Goldspot pen universe.
Tons of new product are slated to hit the shelves in the ensuing weeks. One particular advantage about working on the catalog is that we get to see images of new products before they're even available for sale. We know there have been many people eagerly awaiting the Beatles limited editions from ACME and we'll be working on getting those items available for pre-sale shortly. Delivery of the very first shipments should be coming in mid-to-late-May. When we have them up on the site to reserve, I will let everyone know.
White is going to be a huge color trend this year for pens. With the black on black style being a popular hit last year, white pens are going to be hitting the market from Waterman, Parker, and Montegrappa, to name a few.
Some of the more well-established and renown brands are getting in touch with their roots by offering "new vintage" pens. Pelikan, for example, will be launching a reproduction of the historic M100N in tortoise shell with a traditional 14kt nib. OMAS is producing a couple limited production pens, including a Arte Italiana Paragon that will be fitted with an "extra-flexible" nib. We already signed on for a few of the OMAS 360 Vintage that are made from transparent blue cotton resin. The 360 can suck up some mean amounts of ink with its internal piston-filling system.
Speaking of piston-fillers - Almost all of our color TWSBI pens are sold out and will be backordered until new shipment arrives from Taiwan. Fear not, we will still have ample stock of the clear demonstrators for the time being. If you have an order pending, we have contacted you by e-mail to check if there is another point-size or color you would be interested in having. Otherwise, your order will be on reserve for when the new shipments arrive.

There's a new commercial that Domino's Pizza is airing on TV that features executives observing less-than-flattering customer feedback and digesting harsh Tweets. Domino's even released a video on YouTube called "The Pizza Turnaround," that expands on the commercial, explaining that they've heard the call for better quality and answered it.
Now, although Goldspot has never received the complaint that their pens taste like cardboard or that the ink is basically ketchup, we know that there are always actions we can take to better service our customers. This applies for all customers : past, present and future.

Sorry for the recent lack of posts. The Holidays have made us all busy elves in the fine-writing department of Santa's workshop. We're picking, packing, taking orders and making sure that everyone gets a great gift for their loved ones. With that in mind, there is only 4 business days left before Christmas Eve, but it still is not too late to find that last-minute gift.
Our best suggestion is to order this weekend and select from thousands of pens, leather organizers and accessories that have the "Snowflake Tag" (see graphic on right). Since we take orders from the internet and by phone, sometimes the inventory does not update quick enough to show that the item has run out-of-stock for the moment. The good news is, we will be making personal phone calls to people who may have ordered an out-of-stock pen to see if there are any alternative color choice or point sizes you would not mind switching for.

We will be able to check stock and verify a more accurate delivery date than the website estimates. We offer UPS Next Day, 2-Day Air and 3-day (business days) shipping, which are available at an additional cost.

We take into consideration the US Postal Service Holiday Shipping Cut-Off Dates to provide these deadlines for customers shipping by US First Class, Priority and Express Mail Service.
US Domestic First Class Mail orders should be made by Friday, December 18th to ensure delivery by the 25th.
