Nominations for Pen of the Year 2009
Since we had so much fun voting in last November's Goldspot Pen of the Year, we decided to do it again. As opposed to last year's format, where we picked the nominees, we are asking YOU, the pen public, to weigh in on your favorite pen of 2009. I realize that this may chaff some vintage pen fans, but we are looking at pens released in 2009 ONLY. However, new color releases may be considered for a pen model that has been in production for years (e.g. Pink Lamy Safari, Vivid Red Namiki Vanishing Point, etc).
For those of you who may not remember, last year's winner by vote was the ONLINE Newood Calligraphy fountain pen set. As part of the victory celebration, we ran a promotion on this item the week following the election. We will do the same this year, provided that the elected winner is a product that we sell on our website.
Comment on this post with your nominations. You may also nominate by tweeting or posting on our Facebook wall. If your favorite pen of 2009 is already nominated, 2nd the nomination! Most importantly, have fun!

I cant wait to see who wins. this is a great acheivment.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the Pilot M90 released? Must have either been near the end of 2008 or early 2009. I love that pen, and if it's eligible, I'd like to nominate it.
ReplyDeletePink Lamy Safari - my girlfriend was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, so I use a pink Lamy Safari EF to remind myself an issue that is far too prevalent. I get questions about the pen, so I can share information about how great fountain pens are. I get questions about the pink pen, so I can share my concern about problem of cancer to others. For those of you who want a great writing experience, try a Lamy Safari. For those of you who have cancer, or a loved one with cancer, my heart goes out to you...
ReplyDelete@alyssa - I'm looking forward to it as well. We had a very good turnout last year for the online voting and I would think this year would even be better. Do you have a nomination you would like to make?
ReplyDelete@rmeador - I couldn't find a specific date of release. Is this the 90th anniversary special edition? Even if the date is late 2008, we would accept it. This one wasn't on the ballot last year.
@Alex - Sorry to hear about your girlfriend. My heart goes out to you both as well. I think everyone at least knows two or three women who have been diagnosed in their lifetime. Sporting the Pink Safari is an effective way to raise awareness and show your support. Definitely a nominee on the list.
Another vote for the Pink Lamy Safari - love this pen and the color is awesome
ReplyDelete@Goldspot: yes, the M90 is the 90th anniversary pen. It's a limited edition of 9000 pieces. I have been able to find reviews of it from 2008, but I don't know if they were all pre-release or not (some of them definitely were). Perhaps your google-fu is stronger than mine. Btw, I like this gallery of it, which I am in no way affiliated with: http://www.pbase.com/kelvinphoto/myu90&page=all
ReplyDelete@rmeador OK, I did a very small amount of detective work and came up with a conclusion. I took a look at the Pilot company history here : http://www.pilotpen.us/about/timeline/ and saw that Pilot officially became the trade name of the company back in 1918, which would place the 90th anniversary in 2008. Since I see most of the reviews are posted in 2009, I am assuming that it was released in the US late in the year. I will allow it as a nomination.
ReplyDelete@Julie Thanks for seconding the nomination for the Pink Safari!
Seconding the Pilot M90!
